Research
is a very costly endeavour. There is no guarantee that there will be any
tangible result comes out from a research undertaking. Even, there is a
results, it may not be useful or practical. Then, there is a question of
funding to make the fruit of research commercial viable.
Many researches done by corporation, university or individual never reach production stage. There are many issues involved here. The researcher often is not the decision maker to turn the research effort into product development. It is a judgement call to decide if the research is commercially worthwhile. As a result, many researches with very good potential never make it out of the laboratory.

Malaysia has a small market. It is not profitable
to conduct large scale research. On the other hand, conduct research and
development is vital to further develop the country. As an alternative, we
should spend effort to research the research to uncover the result of research
which has good potential but being abandoned for various reasons. We can then
pour our resource into them to make it a commercial viable product.
